Owner Complaints (2024)

40 complaints on file with NHTSA. The first 25 records are shown below.

  1. VISIBILITY — 10/25/2026

THE REAR WINDSHIELD "EXPLODED" OR SHATTERED. THE LAST TIME THE CAR WAS DRIVEN WAS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2026. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY GARAGE AT THAT TIME. THE BROKEN REAR WINDSHIELD WAS DISCOVERED ON SUNDAY MORNING AROUND 9:00 A.M.

  2. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — 10/22/2026

on 10/22/2026 at approximately 4:40pm the vehicle started beeping and came to an abrupt stop, there was nothing in front of vehicle to solicit this response. The vehicle suffered a critical safety failure involving un-commanded phantom braking that nearly caused a severe rear-end collision. This caused the other vehicle that almost hit me to become enraged, insult and cuss me out and chase me down up the road. This was not operator error, and had an accident occured, it would have looked like the operator was at fault for coming to an abrupt stop.

  3. VISIBILITY — 10/13/2026

My 2024 Nissan Kicks, with approximately 50,000 miles, experienced a spontaneous rear windshield failure on October 13, 2026, while parked in my residential driveway. The vehicle had been parked in the garage overnight. An electrician arriving at the property noticed the rear windshield actively cracking and alerted my son. My son went outside and could hear the glass continuing to crackle and fracture while the vehicle remained stationary. Nearly the entire rear windshield shattered into small fragments, with much of the glass remaining in place. The rubber seal surrounding the glass also became detached. There was no known collision or impact. Photographs and witnesses are available. I am concerned about a possible manufacturing or installation defect and the serious safety implications if this failure had occurred while driving. I request that NHTSA investigate this potential safety defect.

  4. UNKNOWN OR OTHER,VISIBILITY/WIPER — 09/01/2026

Rear windshield spontaneously and completely shattered, approximately five minutes after turning the vehicle off, with the rear defroster on

  5. UNKNOWN OR OTHER,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — 08/31/2026

The rear windshield shattered ~ while driving for no reason. I did have the rear defrost on, but it was 60 degrees out, so that should not have happened. I've used it in the winter when it was below zero and nothing happened then. Now I'm afraid to use it at all. Just a giant pain having it replaced & now I'm scared. AND as a result, there's glass all over the driveway which will likely puncture a tire and they're telling me to get my car detailed because they can't remove all the glass from inside either. Unbelievable hassle I don't have time for. Also, the front collision warning comes on at totally random times ~ when there's no one in front of me at all or when there are several car lengths separating me and another vehicle. Sometimes it also says it's unable to detect, which is also totally random. It happens when the weather is perfect ~ I understand if it's snowy, but on a sunny day, that shouldn't happen.

The car was off and parked, I had been driving, and my grand daughter in the back seat. My grand daughter who is [XXX] old was getting out of the car from the passengers rear door and the rear seat belt locked and retracted around her , continuously tightened and was wrapped around her abdomen, squeezing and failed to release. I attempted myself to get her out of the entrapment with no success. I ran into the building for help, Four adults who were trained in child safety, devices attempted to activate the manual release mechanism described in the manual, but the belt remained completely jammed and trapped her, she was screaming in pain and due to the immediate physical trauma and emergency, we were forced to cut the seat belt to free my grandchild. Nissan Consumer Affairs was notified under Reference # XXX, but they have closed the file, refused to cover the repair, and explicitly refused to provide me with a copy of their investigation report. The seat belt retractor represents a severe safety hazard. I have called them and they state, case closed and no, we won’t be releasing the report. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  17. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,BACK OVER PREVENTION — 01/14/2026

The main infotainment display screen in my 2024 Nissan Kicks failed prematurely and blacked out completely, rendering the backup camera and rear cross-traffic safety systems entirely inoperable. This failure poses an immediate safety hazard to myself and pedestrians, as I am forced to drive and back up daily with zero rear visibility, completely losing essential safety features regulated by federal standards. The defect has been officially inspected and confirmed by an authorized Nissan dealership service center on two separate occasions. The dealer attempted to process a warranty replacement but informed me that the necessary replacement part was backordered due to inventory delays. Despite complying with the diagnostic process, Nissan Consumer Affairs has severely delayed a resolution since January 2026. On May 21, 2026, a supervisor corporate representative (Nancy, ID 7319115) refused to cover 100% of the manufacturing defect, denied providing a resolution in writing, and explicitly prohibited me from recording the phone call to avoid leaving an official audio trail of their statements. I am filing this complaint because Nissan is failing to fix an active safety hazard on a practically new vehicle under warranty.
