Owner Complaints (2024)

79 complaints on file with NHTSA. The first 25 records are shown below.

  1. UNKNOWN OR OTHER — 10/22/2026

I am formally reporting a serious safety incident involving the original factory-supplied tire jack provided with our 2024 Ford Expedition Limited. Vehicle: 2024 Ford Expedition Limited VIN: [XXX] Incident Date: [XXX] Location: [XXX]. While attempting to change a tire, my husband, [XXX], experienced a sudden loss of stability when the factory-supplied jack slipped, causing the vehicle to fall and trapping him underneath. My husband underwent total knee replacement surgery approximately two and a half months ago. The Expedition came down onto his surgically repaired leg, potentially causing additional injury. Even more concerning, the Ford-provided jack slipped three times during this incident. The first occurrence happened when my husband was attempting to remove the tire. As the tire came off the jack slipped and caught his leg underneath the vehicle. He caught it and tried to put the jack back in place to get his leg out, but it slipped again. On the third attempt, he was finally able to remove his right leg, which had been pinned underneath the whole time. Note: He followed the instructions and placed the jack where specified. We have video evidence showing the positioning of a tire underneath the Expedition. That tire appears to have prevented the full weight of the vehicle from coming down on his leg. Without that protection, this incident could have resulted in catastrophic injury or death. We have discovered that there are multiple safety recalls involving the 2024 Expedition, although we have not confirmed an existing recall specifically involving the original factory jack. Given the seriousness of this incident, we formally request: An immediate investigation of the factory-supplied jack and its potential failure. Identification of the original jack's manufacturer, supplier, part number, design specifications, and rated capacity. 2. UNKNOWN OR OTHER — 09/28/2026

On [XXX] I was grabbing my wallet from the center console of the vehicle and the peeling chrome piece tore my left ring finger open. It was a flap tear that required an urgent care visit to fix/stop the bleeding. They applied derma bond and other bandaging to help stop bleeding and heal the wound - I also had to go back into urgent care on [XXX] to re-treat the wound after the initial bandaging fell off. My local dealer (Greiner) inspected the vehicle on [XXX] and provided a repair order to prove that the chrome trim piece was indeed peeling and sharp and subject to the recall. I contacted ford's customer service today, [XXX], to request reimbursement of medical expenses, some kind of interim fix for the dangerous trim piece, and a potential extension of goodwill via providing a free extended warranty. They provided none of the above and told me I would have to wait until some kind of fix was issued for the peeling trim piece before Ford can reimburse any of my medical expenses or do anything else for me. She said this wouldn't be until likely some time first quarter of next year and advised that I hold off on submitting anything to them until then as there's nothing they can do until a remedy is issued. I told her I'm not asking for a recall fix - I'm asking for reimbursement for medical expenses and some kind of interim fix or a loaner vehicle if possible - all under their injury claims processing rather than recall processing. She offered none of the above. After pushing - the agent ([XXX] was her name and she was reached at 1-800-392-3673) opened case #[XXX] to at least log my call/their refusal to do anything. I'm logging this complain to note that Ford refused to offer any kind of interim fix nor any kind of reimbursement for the medical expenses I incurred due to my injury sustained from their faulty center console. 3. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — 10/02/2026 (Crash reported)

While leaving a parking lot the vehicle was pulling out a parking spot in reverse, as the vehicle changed from reverse to drive, teh vehicle randomly started accelerating without cause, the gas pedal was not initiated and there was no pedal influence at all. The car had an internal computer issue and started to sort through the cruise control settings, adapative cruise control settings, and just started accelerating out of nowhere without being told to do so. The car was able to come to a complete stop after the driver reacted quickly;y and swiftly, scaring the passenger of the vehicle which was his wife, and his (2) daughters one of which is an infant and the other a toddler. This was a scary moment for the entire family as the vehicle had zero control. We have reported the incident to the proper channels at Ford and have taken the vehicle in to have it diagnosed and nothing has been done to correct the problem; in fact they haven’t even found a problem. The car has done this on multiple occasions so now we dont park the vehicle in parking garages, car parking lots in close proximity to other vehicles, and we do not pull nose in to parking spots at all in the event that the car accelerates without cause. The car is also having a multitude of transmission issues from skipping to dropping out to locking up. The car has been taken in on multiple occasions just to be told they didn’t find any issues. Ultimately we believe the car has a software issue as we had another ford vehicle, a ford F250 also a 2024 that had computer issues and was purchased back by ford. This however is my wife’s vehicle and she needs the car for our kids sports and entertainment purposes so we dont have the luxury of dropping the vehicle off to be bought back and wait a long duration of time for the lemon law process to take place. This car has been nothing but a safety issue and a headache since it was purchased and I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS MODEL SHOULD BE ON THE ROAD WITH OTHER FAMILIES.

  4. UNKNOWN OR OTHER — 09/23/2026

As I drove down the road my sunroof exploded, glass flew everywhere and scratched the top of vehicle

  5. STRUCTURE — 09/22/2026

Hood striker fasteners failed allowing hood to separate from striker at highway speed resulting in hood flying open, striking and damaging windshield and blocking view of driver. Photos from incident scene and subsequent dealer inspection agree on fastener failure as the striker was found fully latched into the retainers. Fortunately, driver was in an outer lane and able to navigate to shoulder and stop vehicle without further damage.

  6. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM — 09/21/2026

Started vehicle for first drive of the day and noticed the digital instrument cluster failed to display any information. The screen remained blank although the backlight was on. Turned the vehicle off and on, performed a reset, disconnected battery for more than an hour before reconnecting, checked fuses, etc., but the display did not correct. Unable to check speedometer, fuel levels, RPM, drive mode, etc. The vehicle has been taken to local Ford Dealership, buy was advised it would be several weeks before they could run diagnostics check.

  7. STEERING,WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER — 09/17/2026

This was a rental vehicle obtained from Budget at [XXX]. On XXX at approximately 2:45 p.m., while driving south toward [XXX], the Ford Expedition developed increasingly severe rumbling and shaking and became difficult to control. All occupants noticed the condition. We reduced speed and pulled off at the first safe available location at approximately 3:00 p.m. rather than continue driving. After stopping, we inspected the left-rear wheel and found a snapped wheel stud and a missing lug-nut position. Multiple actual threaded lug nuts were loose enough to be turned by hand. Budget roadside assistance dispatched a tow operator. The tow driver independently verified the snapped stud and multiple loose lug nuts and recorded the condition on video before tightening the loose lug nuts so the vehicle could be loaded for towing. The vehicle had approximately 77,000 miles. No crash occurred and no one was injured because we stopped driving once the vehicle became difficult to control. Our party included two young children in car seats. We do not know when or why the wheel stud fractured or why the remaining lug nuts became loose. We are reporting this because a wheel-fastener condition severe enough to cause substantial vibration and difficulty controlling the vehicle could create a serious risk of wheel separation or loss of control if it occurs in this vehicle or in similarly maintained vehicles. The rental vehicle VIN is [XXX]. We have photographs/video and are seeking the rental company's maintenance and inspection records. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  8. Chest Clip, Buckle, Harness — 08/24/2026

I recently discovered that the car seat harness is fraying on both sides. This is near the base (by hips of child in seat) where they enter the cushion and connect to the car seat. I think this is a defect and poses a risk, especially if I were to get in an accident. When I submitted a complaint with photos to Baby Jogger they replied "After reviewing the concern, please note that fraying is not considered a manufacturing defect. Fraying occurs gradually through normal use and wear over time rather than from a single incident and should be addressed before it gets worse. As a result, this type of condition is not covered under our warranty policy." They did offer a whopping $100 off an item over $500. In my opinion this should be remedied by the vendor.

  9. STRUCTURE — 06/08/2026

The contact owns a 2024 Ford Expedition. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V368000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

  10. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — 07/16/2026

Intermittent warning of front camera collision / braking malfunction. Usualy less then 10 seconds but on one occassion persisted for about 10 minutes. Has been to dealership for investigation without resolution. Happened last on 7/16/2026. Arrived at dealership withing 20 minutes, they were able to call up the alert on there service advisors computer but could not do further investigation at the time. Vehicle is again scheduled to go to dealership on 3 August 26. Prolonged alert was 6/2/26, immeadiatly went to dealer (within 3 miles) vehicle into dealer fror a week on 7/6/26 without resolution

  11. SEAT BELTS — 07/16/2026

The contact rented a 2024 Ford Expedition from Enterprise Rent-A-Car. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and occupied, the contact was informed by his grandson that the seat belt was not operating properly. The contact inspected the seat belt and became aware that the third-row seat belt rear passenger’s side seat belt buckle assembly was damaged. Neither a dealer nor an independent mechanic was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure, and no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 80,240.

  12. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — 07/02/2026

Forward collision system does not work or alert under any circumstances. Vehicle has forward collision mitigation as well as collision mitigation alerting, but neither systems work. Dealer able to verify these systems do not work, but have no recourse for repair, as Ford engineering has not provided a solution.

  13. ENGINE — 06/26/2026 (Fire reported)

Incident happened 06/26/2026. My wife was driving with our 4 kids down the highway to family event. My wife smelled a funny odor coming from the vents and was going to drive to the next exit and then noticed smoke. At that moment she wasn’t sure where the smoke was coming from. She put the hazards on and started pulling off to the shoulder thinking possibly it was the radiator. She came to a stop and called me (husband) that something was wrong with the vehicle. She was going to leave the kids in the car, get out and check the radiator. That’s when smoke started coming in through the air vents. She didn’t want the kids to breath in the smoke so they exited the vehicle, that’s when she noticed a fire under the engine. At that point a state trooper arrived on scene. He checked on my wife and kids and brought them back to his patrol car. The trooper went back to the vehicle to grab the baby’s diaper bag and wife’s purse. The trooper tried to extinguish the flames but the front of the vehicle was well involved already. Within 10-15 minute from my wife stopping the whole car was burnt to the ground and nothing left of the car. Looking back my wife only had a couple minutes to get to safety, had they lingered before getting out of the vehicle this could have been a tragic fatality incident. Our children do not feel safe riding in a vehicle since the incident happened. The safety of the trooper on scene was at risk helping get everyone to safety. It seems that something on the engine failed with how quickly the fire started. Vehicle can and should be inspected to find out what happened so this does not happen to another family. The vehicle has not been inspected yet. No warning lights ever came on. There was never any symptoms prior to this incident and the vehicle has been serviced by the dealer prior to and since we purchased the vehicle.

  14. UNKNOWN OR OTHER — 06/15/2026

The spring for the door for the 4-flat trailer plug on vehicle is too powerful. This resulted in the door wearing away at the trailer plug and has resulted in the wires of the trailer light plug breaking. This is available upon request. It puts our safety at risk as our trailer lights can go out and result in less information for other drivers, possibly resulting in a rear-end crash. The problem has not been reproduced, and has not been inspected. The only symptom of the problem in the vehicle is it telling us the trailer was disconnected. The trailer was a 2020 Malone microsport trailer.

  15. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,STRUCTURE — 05/28/2026

Several of automatic sensors were not working (tire pressure) and the horn. The dealer stated I had road damage and wires were torn loose. I'm a 76 year old woman and I do not take this car off road or have any recollection of such an incident. I maintain the underside of the vehicle is improperly protected. They charged me $2300 to fix it.

  16. UNKNOWN OR OTHER — 05/26/2026

No accident, malfunction, warning lights, or safety-related issues occurred. Vehicle is operating normally at this time.

  17. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEATS — 05/17/2026

The third row seats both have reachable access to the third-row PowerFold buttons even in car seats. My two toddlers can easily reach the fold buttons while strapped in to their seats and are able to recline and move their seats forward and backwards. This caused major safety hazard because their car seats become loose. The buttons are placed very close to the third row seat and are accessible to 35 lb children to press and play with them. While strapped into their car seats, my children easily reached and both touched the buttons and loosened their car seats while the car was in motion and I was driving. There is no software setting or built-in dashboard switch to disable the third-row PowerFold buttons in a Ford Expedition. To prevent the seats from accidentally folding, the most effective permanent solutions are removing the associated fuse, disconnecting the physical wiring harness from the button panel, or physically blocking the switch. This is extremely dangerous and needs to be fixed

  18. POWER TRAIN — 04/10/2026

Transmission failure. Vehicle has failed to accelerate and then failed to move at all. Still under warranty and no codes shown. Vehicle left immobile on interstate due to intermittent transmission failure. Initial repair was not sufficient as issue has returned. No solutions for additional repair to address safety issue.

  19. POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE — 03/29/2026

This is a report of a recurring, life-safety defect involving unintended vehicle movement in a 2024 Ford Expedition. The vehicle has experienced two separate incidents where it was placed in 'Park,' remained stationary for 13-30 seconds, and then began driving itself backward without driver intervention or throttle input. Incident 1: Occurred on March 29, 2026 and I have this one on video. Incident 2: Occurred on April 8, 2026. The video clearly shows the vehicle remaining stationary and in 'Park' for 13 seconds before the unintended movement begins. This delay proves the movement is not a 'start-up rocking' sensation or 'normal clutch drag,' but a delayed mechanical or electronic failure of the park actuator or transmission system. I presented the vehicle for service at a Ford dealership on April 17, 2026. Despite my report of a delayed-onset rollaway, the dealership documented the issue as a 'normal and desired characteristic' of the 10-speed transmission. They characterized the event as a minor 'rocking' sensation that occurs immediately, which is factually contradicted by my video evidence showing a 13-second delay. This leaves me with an unsafe vehicle prone to unintended movement. I am requesting a formal investigation into a potential park-engagement failure.

  20. LANE DEPARTURE,BACK OVER PREVENTION — 06/03/2025

Since I purchased the vehicle brand new, none of the safety features have been functional. The following sensors are faulty and none of them have worked since I bought the vehicle: 1) Cross Traffic Alert; 2) Blindspot System Fault; 3) Pre-Collision Assist; 4) Front Camera Fault; 5) Parking Sensor Fault; 6) Lane Keeping Assistance. I tried to take the vehicle into the service department of the dealership to fix the problem several times, but as of this time, there has been no solution. The dealership said the problem cannot be fixed, because only Ford Corporation can create a computer software fix for the problem. I was instructed by the dealership not to bring the vehicle back for the same issues, because nothing can be done, and they will not touch it. However, Ford has failed to launch a computer software fix, since I had had the vehicle to 2 years. Since the dealership can't fix it and Ford can't fix it, I am stuck with a defective vehicle that is "Unsafe" to drive, because all of these safety features that are not functional help prevent and reduce the probability of motor vehicle accidents. Ford is refusing to help me and rejected my claim even though they can't fix it.

  21. LANE DEPARTURE,BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — 06/03/2025

I bought this vehicle brand new in 2024 and none of the safety features are functional and can't be fixed. Ford corporation cannot find a a computer software fix for it and the dealership can't fix it. The vehicle in unsafe to drive. The following sensors are faulty and have continued to give failure alerts since I purchased the vehicle: 1) Cross Traffic Alert; 2) Blind Spot System Fault; 3) Pre-Collision Assist; 4) Front Camera Fault; 5) Parking Sensor Fault; 6) Lane Keeping Assistance, 7) Rear backup assistance. It is a safety hazard and unsafe to drive because none of the "Safety Warning" or "Driver Assistance" features work, that would help prevent accidents. For the past 2 years, I have been driving this defective vehicle that is a safety hazard, which is not repairable, nor is the vehicle marketable. I have tried to resolve this issue numerous times, but there is no solution. The dealership advised me to not bring it in for service again, because there is nothing that can be done. I tried to file a claim with Ford Corporate and requested they buy the vehicle back, because it meets the criteria and the elements under the Texas Lemon Law, regarding electrical and safety concerns. However, my claim was rejected. As of right now, there is no solution for this issue.

  22. LANE DEPARTURE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE — 07/24/2025

I have had my car at the dealership twice, once in August of 2025 and once in February of 2026 because when I start I get a warning, front collision assist malfunction, lane keep assist malfunction, blind spot monitoring malfunction, and as a result, I have no cruise control, even in normal cruise control mode. I have been told it’s an electrical update, and it was October, then January, now it’s March. Just saw a recall was issued for Navigator, Nautilus, Aviator, and Explorer with this exact problem, but no recall for the expedition.

  23. WHEELS,ENGINE — 02/14/2026

Bought the car on Feb 14th 2026. We were told Avis car sales in fontana does their vehicle inspection on every car before its sold. We noticed the two back tires on the expedition were bald and showing cords. We told Tawnya and George about the tires and they said they would order them, they'd be in within two days and to bring the car back to get them replaced. When we got home we setup ford diagnostics and found out the oil life was at 29% so they also lied and sent us out with bad oil. We checked the dip stick and yeah super dark oil. We've called two days in a row and keep getting told they are busy and they will call us back, they have not. We have tried to reach corporate but they dont have a department for this. The vehicle is currently sitting because of how bad the tires are, its 100% not safe to drive. Trying to get the dealership to honor the safety fix they promised but they are avoiding it.

  24. UNKNOWN OR OTHER — 02/03/2026

The rear portion of the panoramic moonroof shattered spontaneously while the vehicle was being operated, without any impact or external cause.

  25. UNKNOWN OR OTHER — 01/12/2026

On Monday, January 12, I was driving down the highway with 2 of my coworkers, when all of a sudden there was a loud pop and glass shattered. My sunroof had exploded. It was a sunny clear day, there were no vehicles in front of us and we were not going under an overpass. We pulled over to take pictures and drove the vehicle straight to Ford. We have since read that this type of incident has occurred before with multiple other Expeditions.
