Owner Complaints (2024)

  1. STEERING — 10/08/2026

Lost power steering after making a left hand 90 deg. turn

  2. SERVICE BRAKES — 10/12/2026

Brake pedal assembly on 2024 Chevrolet Malibu became loose and wobbly under normal driving conditions at 36,300 miles. Dealer refused warranty repair."

  3. POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES — 07/23/2026

I have brought my vehicle to Preston Hood Chevrolet on two occasions for two major issues. Failed breaking system started as when I am at a stop light the car won’t move and the brake light and ignition light comes on and it won’t move when I press the gas! I almost had an 4 car pile up. Now it is stalling when I am driving on the street! See the uploads. The first time they said it was a speed sensor and the second time they said it was the wrong tire size.. My Onstar diagnostic report says failed braking system. It also says critical oil level and yet they said they performed a multi point oil inspection. Look at the uploads. Does GM want a fatal accident lawsuit? Why doesn’t a dealership know how to repair my vehicle? I was told by 2 dealerships there is NO remedy for the GM back up camera. They would not fix my broken back up camera.

  4. UNKNOWN OR OTHER — 09/01/2026

Back-Up Camera has malfunctioned several times. We received a RECALL NOTICE on it. We took it in for replacement today and were denied recall replacement as they said it worked today. But it has repeatedly malfunctioned while driving. We get a BLANK/BLACK screen with a WARNING to SERVICE CAMERA. It has also been shown with a blurry/fuzzy screen where you cannot make out the images at all. Dealer denied recall even though we have a letter with our VIN number for recall.

My rearview camera is currently clear and functioning normally, with no distortion or blank screen. I am requesting that NHTSA review whether my specific VIN is actually part of the affected population for this recall and whether the recall should apply to my vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  9. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM — 08/20/2026

This complaint relates to NHTSA Campaign 26V212 / GM Recall N262551720, covering the rearview camera defect on 2023–2025 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles. I own a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu. On XXX, the rearview camera began intermittently failing. On XXX, the camera failed completely while I was backing out of a space in a parking garage in [XXX]. With no rear visibility, I caused damage to the vehicle's passenger-side door handle. I contacted my dealership around XXX, and was told the camera issue was part of a known recall with a parts backorder. I received an official GM recall notification letter around XXX, confirming the camera required replacement. On XXX, my first day at a new job, I scratched the passenger side mirror against a building while attempting to parallel park without the rearview camera. On XXX, at approximately 5:15 PM, I nearly backed into a pregnant coworker's vehicle while she was seated inside it, in my employer's parking lot. I did not see her car in my path; the collision was avoided only because of her quick reaction, not mine. I have not been involved in a collision, but this defect has directly caused property damage on two occasions and a serious near-miss with another person within the past three months, all while awaiting the recall remedy. I'm submitting this report to document the real-world safety impact of this defect. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  10. BACK OVER PREVENTION — 08/14/2026

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V212000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the contact was advised that the parts were not available for remedy of the recall. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,736.

  12. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,BACK OVER PREVENTION — 05/15/2026

On several occasions in [XXX] and while traveling to [XXX] my vehicle has reported esc codes after starting the vehicle. The ignition light, esc light, parking brake lights come on and do not go off while operating the car until I turn the car off and restart it. When I am at a stop light and try to accelerate on numerous occasions the parking brake release light comes on and it will not release and the car will not accelerate in drive or reverse. It has happened while driving and at stop lights on major highways. Once I shut the car off I have to wait for 10 minutes to reset by restarting it. The whole electric system screen a/c steering lighting has blacked out while I am driving on the interstate and residential streets. I brought it to two dealerships and they state number one they cannot remedy the open camera recall because there is no remedy at this time and number two the esc light is related to a wheel sensor which makes no sense to remedy the parking brake accelerator issue. Can you please help me find a dealership to remedy these serious recall issues and provide me a loaner while they are repaired? I am paying $600 per month for a vehicle with major safety issues. I am attaching the two dealership invoices. God bless, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  13. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM — 12/03/2024

Power door locks stopped working. Took to local dealer. Left car with them for a week and a 1/2 the first time. Dlr replaced BCM module stating this would fix issue. Picked up car and fix lasted 20 seconds. Took back to dlr they could not resolve issue. So I have been without power door locks for more than a year. No way to manually lock the door. Homeless people have opened the door at a stop light.

  15. VISIBILITY/WIPER — 06/01/2026

Manufacturer Recall NumberN262551720 NHTSA Recall Number26V212 received an official recall notice regarding a backup camera issue for my 2024 Chevrolet Malibu back in April. However, it has been 4 months, and the dealership/manufacturer still has not provided a fix or parts to resolve the issue. Driving without a functioning backup camera poses a serious safety hazard, and the prolonged delay is unacceptable. I am requesting NHTSA's assistance in urging the manufacturer to expedite the remedy or provide appropriate support.

  16. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM — 07/15/2026

The backup camera is failing to shut down when the vehicle is put into drive. The camera will stay on for 30 seconds to five minutes when the car is moving forward. The issue was reported to the local GM dealer and the vehicle was brought in for service. They were unable to replicate the problem, so nothing was repaired by the dealership. The problem used to occur once or twice a month. Its frequency has increased. In the last two weeks, while driving on vacation, the backup camera failed to shut off three or four times each day. Sometimes it lasted only 30 seconds and was mainly inconvenient. Several times it lasted longer. In one instance the camera stayed on for five minutes while driven down the Interstate at night. When the camera stays on, it is very distracting, especially at night. Also, you can use the touch screen to access any other vehicle features while the camera is on. There are no dashboard error lights associated with this issue. No codes are generated in the vehicle that can be scanned for. All the dealership that told us about the vehicle issue is that they can't replicate the stuck-on camera problem and won't do any diagnostic work. The car is still under warranty.

  17. POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM — 07/17/2026

was stopped at a red light. When the traffic light turned green, I pressed the accelerator to proceed through the intersection, but my vehicle did not respond or accelerate immediately. After several seconds, the vehicle finally began to move. This unexpected delay created a safety concern because I was unable to accelerate when traffic began moving.Which caused built up traffic and an almost wreck behind me

  19. BACK OVER PREVENTION — 07/15/2026

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V212000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. 20. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM — 07/03/2026

3 times during rainy weather my backup camera would display an odd view. The screen would malfunction and turn off. The radio wouldn't work. Climate control wouldn't work. The first time I pulled the fuse and put it back. Other times I turned off the screen for a while. It has returned to working all 3 times.

  21. POWER TRAIN — 04/04/2026 (Crash reported)

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked and turned off in front of the hotel lobby. Moments after entering the hotel, the contact informed that the vehicle had rolled down the hotel driveway and crashed into two parked vehicles located in the hotel parking area. No injuries were reported. A police report was filed at the scene, and the vehicle was driven away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the incident. The failure mileage was 45,000.

  22. STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SEATS — 04/27/2026

There is a frequency coming from the front of the driver's seat, steering wheel, and under the instrument panel that sends a electrical shock as you drive. If you have aluminum foil or any type of material that blocks electrical signals in the driver's seat it will shock you as well. This could definitely cause an accident while driving . This happens daily. It started in April 2026.

  23. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER — 03/10/2026

Back up Camera has a recall and there has not been a fix for over 3 months. The back up camera shows a black screen

The contact rented a 2024 Chevrolet Malibu. The contact was an Uber driver. The contact stated that the VIN was previously included in NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 26V212000 (Back Over Prevention) and 24V575000 (Equipment). The contact believed that the vehicle should not have been rented with the open recalls. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact had not experienced a failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The VIN was not available.

  25. POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE — 10/08/2025

My 2024 Chevy Malibu has lost power and is not shifting properly yet it’s not displaying any codes. It shifts and jerks very hard when on a cold start but also will not get up and go when I pull into traffic. This has caused me to almost get hit numerous times. It’s like it freezes and won’t go! The dealership could not recreate the problem (shocker), and since no codes they sent me away. Said last time it was due to the battery so I paid to replace that yet that did nothing to the engine/transmission problem. In addition to this issue, I think there’s an electrical issue. My rear view camera will often be distorted like I’m looking through a fish bowl and it has also come on while I’m driving on the freeway. I often lose my infotainment system too. It loses connection all the time and the screen goes black and disconnects from CarPlay. My onstar button will sometimes go red when this occurs but not all the time. Even when I lose the CarPlay, I can’t even get the Bluetooth to work. I purchased this vehicle used at 40k miles and my power train warranty will expire in less than 5k miles yet I can’t get any help with making it safe.
